This survey was created to be fast, so I could have more people give their opinions and have a more accurate data set.

Logo design was an important first step for this project, as I feel a lot of a product's identity comes from how it brands itself, and the use of fonts, colours, and titles can be an incredibly helpful creative tool. Visual design is important to media production, so I always approach it by brainstorming and evolving a visual element.

focus Group and presentation

This is the slides from the focus group, that I would have talked over while presenting.

This was the survey created for the planned focus group. Due to time constraints the survey was not completed, and production was informed by other audience research.

survey and results analysis

This page spread was created as something that could easily be given to someone to help them understand the project.

I unfortunately was not able to use it often, but it was helpful in introducing possible actors to the project.

Good Omens is an adaptation of a novel of the same name that takes an unconventional approach to the dynamic between heaven and hell, particularly with the relationship between the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley. In the show, heaven and hell are shown to be real societies, and angels and demons are humanised in a way that lets the show centre on them. Without the interpretation of the idea of an angel and a demon, the show would not work. Often, scenes depict angels and demons having civil conversations, and becoming friends (although it should be noted that Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship is shown as unwanted and negative by both heaven and hell, which is why they hide it.)

Crowley is one of the two protagonists of the show Good Omens, and is not presented as a bad person. Instead, he is shown as someone who is genuine and caring, and his evil actions are just him doing his job and filling a quota, when ultimately he cares about Aziraphale.

The personification of demons shown through Crowley is something I have taken inspiration from during the production, and hope to create a similar concept of demons in my final product.

Lucifer is a biblically inspired supernatural crime drama following the devil after he abandons hell, and joins the LAPD, stringing his detective partner Chloe Decker along in his demonic adventures. The show takes a very unconventional approach to the portrayal of the devil and demons, while still representing them as evil, they are still redeemable characters, and they are capable of having nuanced relationships and interactions with other characters.

Alongside its presentation of demons, it also has scenes set inside hell.

The way it shows hell in the show is fairly standard, however where it stands out is its presentation of "personal hells" The personification of demons and the presentation of "personal hells" is something that I have taken inspiration from in this project.

Lucifer Morningstar is the main character of the show Lucifer, and despite being the devil is presented as a redeemable character, and after joining the LAPD does a large amount of good and learns morals and responsibility, which is represented as him slowly becoming more mortal, and by extension more human, as he gains humanity.

Lucifer's humanity despite being the devil is similar to the humanity I am presenting in my own characters

Michael is a representation of a demon from the show The Good Place. He is introduced to the show as a heavenly architect, but in reality is a demon who is torturing the protagonists. Over the course of the show, Michael becomes a good person, and joins the protagonists in escaping the bad place.

Michael is another example of a demon in media that is presented as capable of personal growth and change, which humanises him. Alongside this, he is a memorable and likeable character, which is something I hope to emulate in my own production.

Bruce almighty is a film starring Jim Carrey in which a man is granted the power of god, played by Morgan Freeman. In the film, god is presented very typically and represents a very accepted idea of the christian god. This is something I am choosing not to emulate in my own work. Although my production is inspired by christian mythology, I am taking creative liberties in how I present ideas of hell and demons, as a believe it allows me to tell a more engaging story.

This research impacted my inspiration during scriptwriting and aided in development in characterisation. It also had an impact on my considerations of representation.
